In this presentation Kerry will highlight novel and exciting research confirming the traditional anticancer uses of several familiar herbs, ranging from common weeds to majestic trees. One interesting area of research featured will be the relevance to herbal therapy of the various attempts to make phytochemicals more bioavailable in order to increase their biological activity. Another focus will be a new class of highly active and bioavailable phytochemicals that has only been recently discovered. In addition the role of herbs in conjunction with conventional cancer treatments, specifically surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, will be explored using an evidence-based perspective. New discoveries relating to the potential interference of herbs with chemotherapy and radiotherapy are emphasised.
