The study design, methods and results of the Hep573 Study - a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial using silymarin alone and silymarin combined with antioxidants in chronic hepatitis C patients will be examined to provide teaching points for those embarking on clinical research in complementary medicine. This will be a practical session providing checklists, handy hints and lessons learnt from conducting a clinical trial in complementary medicine. The strengths, limitations and implications of this research will also be outlined in this presentation.
